The DC Universe’s Superman Movie Just Fixed A Major Man Of Steel Complaint

The Superman trailer may be brief, but there are a lot of big reveals that reveal how this DCU version of the hero will be different from the DCEU. Superman is the world"s first great comic book superhero. With his first appearance in comics back in 1938, the character is older than the majority of people living today. However, over that time, the legendary hero has made the transition from legend, to myth, with his powers and storylines being out of this world, both literally and figuratively.
Superman is an alien, whose body reacts to the yellow sun in unique ways that grant him incredible powers. He can fly, he has super strength, ice breath, heat vision, super hearing, speed, and various other abilities. While most superheroes are created with one of these abilities, or some variation of them, Superman hit the jackpot and got pretty much everything. But the issue with having so much power, is that often it is hard to make him seem like a character with any sort of vulnerability.
The DCU Superman Trailer Starting With A Defeated Clark Helps Address A Major Complaint About The Man Of Steel Superman May Be A Man Of Steel, But He's Not Invulnerable Close Of course, Clark can be weakened by Kryptonite, and the DCEU movies even killed the character off momentarily, but there was a big issue with Man of Steel and the rest of the DCEU making Superman appear essentially unstoppable. But the Superman trailer immediately refutes that idea. Superman is first seen lying on the ground, bleeding and beaten, which helps to establish that this is not the same God-tier character as seen in the DCEU.
This is actually a really great thing for the character, because David Corenswet"s Superman is still fresh. He"s not some old, grizzled hero who has been through it all, he is a young boy who has a lot still to learn. And honestly, it makes a lot more sense now why James Gunn was adamant that the role be recast, because Cavill"s version of Superman was the person who could swoop in and fix everything, and this Superman story requires someone that could potentially lose.
DCU's Superman Trailer Teases Other Ways The DC Movie Can Fix This Complaint Superman Has A Lot Standing Between Him And His Destiny Close In addition to seeing Superman doubled over in pain, the DCU is setting up dozens of other heroes, villains, and metahumans from the beginning. With characters like multiple Green Lanterns, Mister Terrific, and others introduced in shows like Creature Commandos, there are a lot of other people who could present a real challenge to Superman. It makes sense for him to grow into the role of the most powerful hero in the universe, but if he starts out that way, there is no real room to grow and progress, and that would ultimately mean a much weaker story.
